Machine vision

The highest standard of grading accuracy in all vision domains. Colour imaging, roughness detection, 3D measurement – powerful tools that enable confident and consistent decisions to be made with regards clipping optimization, dry end grading, patching control, composing and scarfing, as well as panel repair and grading.

VDA-S

Technology developed by Mecano that utilizes best-in-industry illumination technology to create a 3D contour combined with real-life colour imaging. All this technology is combined into a powerful tool that enables immediate action to be taken in controlling production, grading or patching. Mecano is the only provider of this technology.

Mecano VDA-S is most commonly used to grade dry veneer. Installed in-line after the dryer, the VDA analyzes every sheet of veneer and passes grade data to the automatic stacker control system or to human operators. Mecano's most recent deliveries have consisted of an integrated Mecano VDA-S/MVA, featuring advanced moisture analysis and colour camera technology. VDA-S is an enchanced version of VDA.

VDA-S Panel Analyzer

VDA-S measures 3D contour with sub-millimetre accuracy; optimizing and controlling the operations of the most efficient panel repair lines, as well as high-speed panel grading lines.

In this process, Mecano’s intelligent VDA-S Panel Analyzer first identifies patchable defects. The data is then used to position the mechanical router. Once the defect has been removed, patching material is dispensed to fill the void. The unit can be programmed to repair all typical types of defects and can be expanded to include additional patching stations.

VDA (Visual Defect Analyzer)

A scalable system for cost-effective grading. Incorporates colour imaging. VDA idenfies defects in veneer and plywood according to their size, type and frequency. This data is then used on applications like veneer grading and patching. This high-resolution, camera-based system eliminates labour and produces results that are consistent and repeatable.

VDA-BL (VDA Back Light)

A simple sheet grader for carrying out simple grading tasks. Controls scarfing lines, patching lines and automatic layup lines using grey-scale imaging. In the scarf-jointing line VDA BL controls the turning/skewing of the sheets as well as positioning of the sheet for correct sawing.

VCO-S (Visual Clipping Optimizer-Synergy)

Utilizes the same advanced imaging technology as the VDA-S. This clipper control and grading system provides value-based optimization data on veneer clipping lines. Can be combined with a moisture analyzer for use on web- or serpentine-type drying lines. Colour imaging with some 3D features.

VCO-S visual clipping optimizer provides optimized clipping based on defect analysis. It is typically used to optimize the clipping of high-value species, such as decorative hardwoods. Data from the clipper scanner controls the stacker, enabling multiple grades to be separated and stacked.

VCO (Visual Clipping Optimizer)

A clipper controller and grading system that provides value-based optimization on veneer clipping lines. Can be combined with a moisture analyzer for use on web- or serpentine-type drying lines. Features colour imaging.

VCO enables optimized clipping based on defect analysis. It is typically used to optimize the clipping of high-cost species, such as decorative hardwoods. Data from the clipper scanner controls the stacker, enabling multiple grades to be separated and stacked.
